SmartTutor is a structured, offline-first, and curriculum-aware AI teaching system that delivers interactive, timetable-driven lessons to students in a classroom via a TV or projector. Think of it as an AI-powered assistant or substitute teacher that can teach a classroom, answer student questions, and provide feedback — all without needing a constant internet connection.

SmartTutor covers most core subjects for Primary 1 through SSS3. However, it does not currently cover French or Nigerian languages such as Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. All topics are pre-loaded and aligned with NERDC, Lagos State Scheme of Works, and NAPPS curriculums.

Students use a separate app called the Smart Tutor Question App. Each class has a unique class code that is entered on the Question App. Multiple students can submit questions from the same or different copies of the app. SmartTutor responds to all questions sequentially, displaying the question and answer on the classroom screen and explaining verbally in detail.

SmartTutor asks short questions during lessons to check understanding. There is a brief pause between a question and its answer to allow students to provide their own answers first. Once the answer is displayed, SmartTutor follows up with a detailed verbal explanation.

SmartTutor ships with 3 built-in avatars: a female formal-looking character, a female Islamic-looking character, and a pencil character. Teachers can choose which avatar to use for lesson delivery, or choose to use none at all.

No. SmartTutor does not collect, transmit, or store any student data. Privacy is built into the core design of the system.

A teacher can pause, rewind, or skip any explanation in real-time. They may pause the lesson, provide their own explanation to the class, and then skip to the next section. SmartTutor is designed to be a tool under the teacher's control.

You need three things: (1) A large display screen — a TV, projector, or smart board; (2) A computing device with at least 4GB RAM and 10GB–40GB of available storage per class; and (3) A mobile phone running the Smart Tutor Question App for student Q&A.

SmartTutor can be installed by the school's own teachers or IT staff at no extra cost. If a school requests custom on-site installation by Syllabux, a service fee may apply.
